Dr. Katherine P. (Kathy) Andriole has been involved in Radiological Imaging Informatics and Biomedical Data Science for more than 30 years with an interest in using concepts from computer science, engineering and informatics to advance medical research, augment medical education and ultimately improve clinical care. She studied Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Medicine at Duke and Yale Universities, respectively. Her PhD research was in classical machine learning. Dr. Andriole completed fellowships in the Departments of Radiology at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of California at San Francisco where she was involved in building, clinically implementing and analyzing picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) before they became commercial entities. She was in the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School for over 20 years and Director of Academic Research and Education at Mass General Brigham AI.
Dr. Andriole is currently the Associate Dean for Health AI Strategy and Innovation at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and Director for the UCLA Center for AI and SMART Health. She is a passionate educator, and her research has involved technical as well as clinically-relevant developments in medical imaging informatics, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Dr. Andriole has served in multiple leadership roles for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), the Society for Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), and the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research (ARBIR). She is the Senior Scientist for Education at the ACR Data Science Institute and is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Imaging Informatics in Medicine, an Associate Editor for the SPIE Journal of Medical Imaging and Senior Consulting Editor for Radiology: Artificial Intelligence.
Dr. Andriole was elected to the Academy of Harvard Medical School. She is a Fellow of the ACR, a Fellow of SIIM, and a Fellow of SPIE. Dr. Andriole has received the RSNA Lifetime Honored Educator Award, the Gold Medal of SIIM, the RSNA Gold Medal, and the inaugural RADxx Trailblazer Award recognizing a pioneering woman leader in Imaging Informatics.
