Welcome to the UCLA Cardiology Fellowship Training Website!

Our Mission

The UCLA Cardiology Fellowship Program is dedicated to training the best and brightest physicians to be future leaders in Cardiovascular Medicine.

Training Program Structure

Our program is an alliance between the Divisions of Cardiology at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center, the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System in West Los Angeles. We are dedicated to training future leaders in Cardiology, including leaders in clinical care, clinical/translational research, and basic science research among other academic pursuits.

We currently offer two fellowship training tracks, both of which provide comprehensive clinical training in the practice of cardiovascular medicine and research opportunities both within clinical medicine and basic science research. The Clinical Training track incorporates comprehensive clinical training in cardiovascular medicine of 2 years' duration with 12 additional months dedicated to research, electives, or specialized training. The second track, known as the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) track offers trainees the same comprehensive clinical training over 2 years with additional intensive research training in an innovative career track, leading to either a Masters of Clinical Research degree, or a Ph.D. The STAR program is intended for physicians committed to academic careers.

Training Sites

Fellows rotate to our 3 main training sites, each with unique patient populations and with world class faculty. These sites are the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Olive-View-UCLA Medical Center, and our newest partner, the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. A full spectrum of cardiovascular services is present at each of these sites, as well as at a 4th clinical site, the UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. This wide spectrum allows our trainees the unique opportunity to see the complete range of cardiovascular pathology in patients, from every socioeconomic background, and in a variety of healthcare delivery systems. This ensures a well-rounded and rigorous education in cardiovascular medicine.

Subspecialty Training

Additional sub-specialty training in Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure and Transplantation, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease is also available and can also be combined with both clinical and STAR fellowship tracks. Fellows who graduate from our program have moved on to stellar careers and have become leaders in clinical, basic science, academic, and community medicine.

We are excited to have you join a rich tradition of training cardiologists to become leaders of this dynamic and exciting field. Thank you for your interest in our program.

Sincerely,
