About

Dr. O'Connell is the Director of the Surgical & Perioperative Careline and Chief of Surgery at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. At UCLA, she specializes in Wound Care and works at the UCLA Center for Wound Healing and Limb Preservation. Dr. O’Connell performs both minimally invasive endovascular treatment and open reconstructive vascular surgery along with wound care. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. O’Connell maintains an active interest in surgical research particularly in the areas of Health Services, Surgical Outcomes, and Wound Care. She is the author of several book chapters, associate editor of a textbook, has presented her original work at multiple national surgical meetings and has original publications in numerous national and international peer-reviewed journals. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards and maintains an active role in surgical education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is proud of founding the UCLA Women in Surgery Program and participating in the UCLA Humanism, Healing Arts and Well Being Programs.
