Dr. Joshua Kamins graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, received his M.D. from UC San Diego, and completed his internship in San Francisco at the California Pacific Medical Center. He then returned to Southern California to train in Neurology at UCLA. Dr. Kamins found a way to unite his interests in sports medicine and neurology by becoming the first neurologist to complete fellowships in both Headache Medicine and Sports Neurology. His current research interests include investigating treatments for post-traumatic headaches and improving the diagnosis of concussion, while his clinical interests consist of treating migraine, post-traumatic headaches, and persistent post-concussion symptoms. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and sees patients in the Goldberg Migraine Program and the Steve Tisch BrainSPORT program. He also serves on the mild TBI task force for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the pain working group for the International Congress of Athlete Brain Health, and is a founding member of the American Society of Sports Neurology.
Dr. Kamins' research is focused on improving the diagnosis of concussion, identifying athletes at risk for prolonged recovery after concussion, and finding specialized ways to treat post-traumatic headaches.
