About

Nancy Halnon, MD is a Pediatric Cardiologist who has served on the UCLA School of Medicine faculty since 2002. Her primary clinical role involves care of children with cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and heart transplants. She helps to lead the clinical efforts for the UCLA Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a recognized expert in cardiac care in muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular disease. Assisted by a geneticist and genetic counselor, she also performs evaluation and screening and management of inherited cardiac diseases including cardiomyopathy as part of the Precision Health initiative within UCLA Healthcare.

Dr. Halnon earned a B.S. and M.D. from Boston University. She completed residency training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at UCLA. She has also earned a M.S. in clinical research from UCLA School of Medicine. She is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Halnon is the principal investigator or co-investigator on many clinical trials and research programs. She has been the recipient of grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Heart Association (AHA). She is an author or co-author of 40 publications. She is currently conducting clinical trials to evaluate treatments for heart failure in children and adolescents, for cardiomyopathy associated with muscular dystrophy, and the use of digoxin in infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She collaborates with investigators in heart transplantation, long-term outcomes in congenital heart disease, and MRI. She is also interested in quality improvement in pediatric cardiology serving as the UCLA investigator for the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative and leads the UCLA single ventricle home monitoring program.
