The past 12 months have been marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and demands to end longtime systemic inequality. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the UCLA Health Black Leadership Coalition and the UCLA Health Office of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will address both topics in a free webinar open to the public, beginning at 5 p.m. Jan. 14.
Dr. Medell Briggs-Malonson, interim chief of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for UCLA Health, will moderate the virtual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Health Symposium, which will explore “Confidence in Crisis: Strengthening Medical Trust within the Black Community During the COVID Pandemic.”
Panelists will include Omai Garner, PhD, director of Clinical Microbiology for UCLA Health; Dr. Nina Harawa, PhD, MPH, professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Dr. Keith Norris, MD, PhD, executive vice chair for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Department of Medicine; Dr. Vickie Mays, PhD, MSPH, special adviser to the chancellor on Black Life at UCLA; and Aziza Lucas-Wright, instructor and co-chair of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
