Dr. Priscilla Y. Hsue, professor of medicine and chief of UCLA Health’s division of cardiology, has been named the Elliot Rapaport Cardiologist of the Year by the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. The recognizes outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to advancing cardiovascular medicine and patient care in California.

"I’m deeply honored to have received this recognition from the California ACC," Hsue said. "It is a privilege to contribute to the field I care deeply about and to work alongside such dedicated peers here at UCLA Health."

Hsue is a pioneer in the field of HIV cardiology. She discovered higher rates of cardiovascular disease in HIV and then elucidated the mechanism underlying this disease process. Her work demonstrated the role of chronic inflammation and immune activation in treated HIV, which has been shown to be strongly predictive of clinical events and mortality. Hsue was recently awarded a $6.3 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to lead a multicenter study investigating how glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) may reduce inflammation and atherosclerosis in people living with HIV. Her body of work continues to be multidisciplinary, innovative, and paradigm shifting in medicine.
