Santa Monica Bay Physicians joins UCLA Health System

Santa Monica Bay Physicians, a well-known and highly regarded medical group on Los Angeles' Westside, will be joining the UCLA Health under an agreement announced jointly by both organizations.

"We put the patient at the core of everything we do, and Santa Monica Bay Physicians' long history of incredibly patient-focused primary and specialty care is a perfect fit for our health system," said Dr. David Feinberg, CEO and associate vice chancellor of the UCLA Hospital System.

"We are excited that we will continue to primarily use Saint John's Health Center while also having access to UCLA Health's network of four hospitals in Westwood and Santa Monica and numerous neighborhood offices throughout greater Los Angeles," said Dr. Bernard Katz, co-CEO of SMBP. "We will maintain access to our current physician provider network as well."

"We look forward to contributing to UCLA's mission of research, teaching and outstanding patient care," added Dr. Mark Needham, co-CEO of SMBP.

Under the agreement, SMBP doctors will become full-time faculty members of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Santa Monica Bay Physicians, founded in 1994, is a 40-physician, multi-specialty group located on Los Angeles' Westside with roots in the Santa Monica area going back to 1953. SMBP is also a large provider network for the Bay Area Community Medical Group, an independent practice association in West Los Angeles.

The UCLA Health has for more than half a century provided the best in healthcare and the latest in medical technology to the people of Los Angeles and throughout the world. Comprising the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica–UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital and the UCLA Medical Group, with its wide-reaching system of primary-care and specialty-care offices throughout the region, the UCLA Health is among the most comprehensive and advanced health care systems in the world.
