UCLA celebrates opening of Edie & Lew Wasserman Building

The state-of-the-art Edie & Lew Wasserman Building completes the trio of buildings envisioned for the Stein Eye Institute more than half a century ago by Hollywood agent and studio chief Lew Wasserman, Music Corporation of America founder Jules Stein and then-UCLA Chancellor Franklin Murphy. The facility also houses the UCLA Global Neurosurgery Center and the Institute of Urologic Oncology.

The building is named for long-time UCLA supporters, the late Edie and Lew Wasserman, whose philanthropy extended beyond UCLA. The Wasserman Foundation made the project possible.

Among the approximately 120 people attending the ceremony were Casey Wasserman, grandson of Edie and Lew Wasserman, chair and CEO of Wasserman Media Group and president and CEO of the Wasserman Foundation; other members of the Wasserman family; Dr. A. Eugene Washington, vice chancellor for UCLA Health Sciences and dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Dr. David Feinberg, president of the UCLA Health System and associate vice chancellor for UCLA Health Sciences; Bartly J. Mondino, director of the Stein Eye Institute and chairman of ophthalmology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; and other campus and UCLA Health Sciences leaders.
