Restoring & Preserving Vision

“The UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic is a community outreach program that we have developed with Care Harbor over the years,” explains Bartly Mondino, MD, chair of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and director of the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. “We have a number of volunteers, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, medical students, residents, and fellows. They all provide free eye care services and glasses when needed to underserved communities and underserved patients. We have provided eye exams for more than 300,000 individuals. I think this is extremely important because people need their vision for independence, quality of life, the ability to seek employment, and the ability to pursue education. Today we’re doing free eye care screenings and either restoring or preserving patients’ vision.”
