Bio

Lu Song is the chief of clinical chemistry at UCLA Medical Center and professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and licensed clinical chemist (director level) in the State of California. She received her Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from University of Washington in 1989 and completed clinical chemistry postdoctoral training from the Mayo Clinic in 1998. She has more than 25 years of experience in directing clinical laboratory, implementing quality control programs, developing and validating laboratory tests, troubleshooting technical problems, as well as providing consultations regarding test utilization and results interpretations. Dr. Song’s research activities focus on the investigation of interference of laboratory tests, utilization of test data to derive or verify reference intervals, implementation and validation of chemistry and immunochemistry assays. She is particularly interested in assays related to heart disease, renal disease, endocrine disorders, and regulation of calcium and bone metabolism.
