About
Dr. Alec Swinburne is a primary care physician practicing in Pasadena. He is board certified in internal medicine and has served on the faculty in both UCLA's hospital and general internal medicine divisions since 2020.
Dr. Swinburne completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University, then worked as a middle school teacher in Harlem, NY before completing a masters degree in anthropology at the University of Chicago. He worked for several years for education non-profits in San Francisco, CA before completing his medical school training at Weill Cornell Medical College in 2015. He came to UCLA for internal medicine residency and has subsequently worked as a hospitalist at Cedars Sinai briefly before returning to UCLA in 2020.
When he's not in the office, Dr. Swinburne enjoys spending time playing saxophone, climbing, finding new types of plants to cultivate in his garden, and gradually coming to understand his son's passion for soccer.

I had a 20-minute video consultation with my primary-care physician (PCP), an internist employed by UCLA Health. I received a phone call from a medical assistant working with my PCP, 30 minutes in advance of the video consultation. My PCP and I conducted the entire consultation through the video interface provided with the Epic MyChart Patient Portal. I consider the service rendered to have been of excellent quality.

My visit to my primary physician, Dr. Swinburne, for my continuing lung problem, fatigue, irregular bowel movement, and depression stemming from the cancer situation of my husband, Dr. Swinburne listened and gave his suggestions for each of the problems, which are always professional, detailed with proper instructions, and helpful. He is one of the best.

The purpose of the appointment changed from Pre-Op to simply a follow-up and medication management. Dr. Swinburne still gave me his full time and attention. He asked questions, listened carefully to me. I never felt rushed out the door.

The Zoom visit was quickly arranged by Dr. Swinburne, my primary physician, because of his concern about finding blood cells in my urine. He is an excellent communicator and has shown concern about my overall health. A supurve primary physician I wood recommend to anybody. I will follow his suggestion for a few weeks to see if I see an improvement in a urine sample analysis and in the way I feel during urination.

Dr Swinburne was very attentive, listened to my concerns, asked questions to learn more about my health history and current status, gave helpful information about how I had tried to deal with my husband’s illness and death, and shared information about his background and medical education. He prescribed 2 diagnostic tests and recommended an over-the-counter medication. I feel lucky to have him as my doctor.
