About

Dr. David Xu is a medical oncologist and a hematologist who is appointed as a clinical instructor of medicine at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He has a passion for the treatment of solid tumors and a special interest in genitourinary (urologic) cancers including prostate, kidney, bladder/urinary tract, adrenal, and testicular cancers. He brings both cutting-edge standard of care and novel therapies as well as exciting clinical trials to the Orange County community and beyond. He is also affiliated with Hoag hospitals and Saddleback Medical Center.

After graduating summa cum laude with a BA in biology from Northwestern University, Dr. Xu went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He then finished his internal medicine residency at University of California, San Diego. He completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Philadelphia, where he trained under nationally recognized leaders in medical oncology prior to joining the faculty at UCLA.

As a physician dedicated to patient care, Dr. Xu strives to provide personalized care to each patient because he believes that each patient’s journey is unique. His goal is to help his patients navigate through the rapidly advancing field of cancer treatment with the purpose of tailoring care to maximize the well-being of his patients, emphasizing quality of life in addition to the treatment of illness.

He is a member of professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. He has taken part and published in basic science, translational, and clinical research throughout his medical career and is actively involved in clinical trials located at the Irvine and Laguna Hills clinics. He is a lifelong learner who enjoys participating in continuing medical education activities and regional or national conferences to stay on top of the field so that he can bring the most up-to-date and highest quality of care to his patients.
