About
Dr. Emily Newsom is a board certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained dermatologic surgeon. She is board certified in dermatology, and specializes in skin cancer, dermatologic surgery and cosmetic dermatology. Her research is primarily in the fields of skin cancer and patient education.
Dr. Newsom received her medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She then completed her dermatology residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, and her fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology (Mohs surgery) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Newsom loves living in Southern California. When she's not working, she enjoys pilates, yoga, and traveling.

I had miner surgery on my ears where the holes for ear rings were torn .The surgery worked for one ear but not the other. T hole in the one ear was still to big so she has to recur one ear. The Doctor will now close the hole wait 2 to 3 months and re pierce the ear. it makes Sense to get the best results. I am very happy with her decision.

The experience with Dr Newsom and the nurse was very good. I was called in for the appointment exactly on time and attended to all the time. The minor operation went off without a hitch and I received a running explanation as it proceeded. All my questions were answered and I was provided with copies of the paperwork upon exit. The front desk attendants were very polite and also answered my unrelated questions.

I received a good explanation of the procedure and with test results choices of how to heal the wound. The procedure was more-or-less painless and I was provided medications to treat the wound and bandages.

Everything went very well. The nurse was very professional and explained the entire process. At my request, she also showed me a picture of the area where the MOS procedure was going to be performed. The doctor came in, introduced herself, and walked me through the process too.

Dr. Newsom was professional, polite and caring. We spent a lot of time on my cancer history, and decided she would call my other UCLA doctors to discontinue history and future care. The afternoon of the day of my appointment she had already discussed my case with three if my doctors and texted me to let me know. Needless to say, her follow through and commitment to her patients is remarkable.

I couldn’t ask for a better experience than the one I just had with Dr. Newsom. Dr. Newsom spent maybe 10 extra minutes to consult with me before my biopsy. Not only are her expertise evident, she showed genuine care in my situation and I greatly appreciate that.
