Dr. Evelyn Curls grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended Harvard-Westlake High School before going on to receive her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California. She obtained her Doctorate in Medicine while also receiving her Masters of Business Administration at UCLA. Before starting her residency training she worked as a consultant for Johnson & Johnson both domestically and abroad in Narobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana. She served as a business consultant for HIV clinics helping them to improve their operations and funding though establishing microfinance ventures.
Dr. Curls completed her residency in Internal Medicine at UCLA. She was a member of the Primary-Care Internal Medicine track at UCLA. Being part of this program, she was able to receive increased exposure to fields including Sports Medicine, Podiatry, Dermatology, East-West Medicine, as well as Primary care of the medically complex patient. She is trained in the breadth of Primary care including Preventive Health Care, Women's Health and Family planning, Primary care of patients with HIV, management of disease processes such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, and Primary care of patients with solid organ transplants.
Dr. Curls also holds an administrative role and serves as the Regional Medical Director for the Department of Medicine South Bay and DTLA Community practices where she oversees clinic operations and physician management for the primary care and specialty offices in the region. She also is the Vice President of the Department of Medicine Practice Group which is an elected role in which she serves as an Executive Board Member that is tasked with creating and implementing policies across the Department of Medicine.
