James H. Lee, MD, FAAP is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. After completing his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, he received his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his pediatrics residency training at UCLA. After residency, Dr. Lee was recruited to stay on as faculty at UCLA.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities as a general pediatrician, he has leadership roles in medical education. He serves as the Associate Program Director, Continuity Clinic Director, and Resident Advisor for the Pediatrics Residency Training Program.
In regards to the medical students at DGSOM, he is one of a select group called the Educators for Excellence that have developed and delivered a reimagined curriculum for the first-year medical students. Additionally, he is a Pediatrics Clerkship Site Director and a faculty advisor for medical students interested in pursuing Pediatrics or Primary Care as a field. Dr. Lee is a faculty sponsor for the Pediatrics Interest Group and works with the group to educate the field of Pediatrics to medical students and to help create mentorship opportunities between motivated students and pediatric residents.
Dr. Lee's research interests include medical education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and enhancing the care of our pediatric population with a focus on children with special healthcare needs. His passion for teaching has been recognized by the Department of Pediatrics by being awarded the Robert C Neerhout Teaching Award four times at the Assistant Clinical Professor level. Finally, in 2021, he was awarded by the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA the prestigious Kaiser-Permanente Award for Excellence in Teaching. This was in recognition of outstanding dedication, innovation, and sustained excellence in teaching.
