Dr. Joel Thomas is a Clinical Instructor in Internal Medicine at UCLA and practices as a primary care physician in Torrance. He provides compassionate, comprehensive, and personalized care to his patients. His clinical interests are broad, including patient education and management of chronic medical conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. He is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Thomas received his medical degree from St. George's University in Grenada. He completed his internal medicine residency training at SUNY Stony Brook at Mather Hospital. He then worked as a Hospitalist/Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital for two years before joining UCLA Health.
Dr. Thomas is from New York and is excited to practice near family in Southern California. When he's not working, he enjoys playing basketball, traveling, volunteering, exploring new cuisine, and spending time with his family.

I have been seeing Dr. Thomas as my primary care physician for over 4 years. I am please with his care in this role. He also is my wife’s primary care doctor. It is very nice having a relation with a single physician of this duration. He knows who we are. This is uncommon in the practice of medicine today - and a major issue.

Dr. Thomas is the most personable and thorough Primary Physician! It is a pleasure to see him. Takes time to answer questions, perform thorough exam & explain follow-up tests. I never feel rushed during an appointment. Additionally, when prescription refills are sent, Dr. Thomas is prompt & diligent. (When not in the office, getting “refills” is a nightmare!). I have referred Dr. Thomas to two relatives & both are extremely pleased! Not enough accolades for Dr. Thomas!!

I never fill rushed and he is a good listener who follows up with relevant questions based on my expressed concerns. Dr..Thomas explained medical info in layman's terms so that I did not feel clueless. He opened up myuclahealthbaccount which servesd as a ready reference companion went about discussing my health concerns and performing an examination of the part of my body where I feel pain. He checked several of my lab and blood tests results and concisely explained these results to me and that there was no evidence of serious health problems.I left confident that nothing serious was on the brink of happening to me health wise. I adhere to his medical advice and feel better. I also appreciate how he extended praise for the weight I have lost and how he encouraged me to stay on this path..he explained how a lower weight does tend to reduce hbp, which is one of my main health objectives. As I exited the doctor's office i took a big sigh of relief..
