About

Julie Wu is a licensed clinical social worker and pain psychotherapist who provides individual and group talk therapy to patients with chronic pain. She primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but also uses evidence-based modalities including “seeking safety” and “motivational interviewing.” Her goal is to help patients manage chronic pain by educating them on the connection between their mental and physical states, and using holistic methods to address unresolved trauma related to pain management. By working through trauma and accepting one’s life circumstances, patients can improve their quality of life and gain healing.

Ms. Wu primarily works out of UCLA Health’s Comprehensive Pain Center in Santa Monica, but also sees patients in UCLA Health’s Torrance pain clinic and Santa Monica rheumatology office. When appropriate, she offers return patients the opportunity to engage via video visits through the myUCLAhealth patient portal.

Ms. Wu earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California and her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development with a focus on rehabilitation counseling from George Washington University in Washington D.C. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis.

Prior to joining UCLA Health in 2017, she worked as a therapist and mental health case manager at various agencies in Southern California, addressing mental health symptoms related to homelessness, substance abuse and domestic violence.
