About

Dr. Bonthala earned her undergraduate degree from New York University and her medical degree from University of Texas – Southwestern. She completed her internal medicine residency at University of Illinois Chicago and her general gastroenterology fellowship at University of Southern California. Dr. Bonthala then received advanced training in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where she was recruited to stay on faculty at the Cedars Sinai Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, specializing in the treatment of complex IBD as well as pregnancy in patients with IBD.

At UCLA, Dr. Bonthala sees complex Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis patients for second opinion consults. She also specializes in the clinical care of women with IBD as well as the LGBTQIA IBD population. Her research interests are in the clinical outcomes and implementation of care in these underserved populations. She is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
