Dr. Richard Cooke is a board-certified primary care physician who practices at UCLA Health | MPTF Toluca Lake location in Burbank. He specializes in Family Medicine, providing routine and preventive care as well as the management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
Dr. Cooke is a native of Minnesota. His interest in math and science led him to pursue degrees in Computer Science and Biology. After working as a software engineer and consultant, he attended medical school at the University of North Dakota. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Cooke attended residencies in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine in Detroit. He then served as a Family Medicine provider and full-time faculty member with an emphasis on providing care for HIV+ patients and their family members.
Dr. Cooke believes in building partnerships with his patients focusing on evidence-based medicine and shared decision making.
His outside interests include cooking, reading, weight lifting and family time with his partner and two pugs.

I arrived a few minutes late ( as usual). I checked in and sat down for about two minutes . I was called in by the nurse who was very friendly! She took me to the room and did what she needed to do. The Dr. took maybe 3-4 minutes to arrive he was nice, professional and funny! He did what he was supposed to do! The xray technician was very nice, professional and loves his job! Overall it was a great visit with extremely happy, nice professionals!

Honestly, this was the easiest and most positive visit I?ve had at a medical office in the last four years. (Covid screwed up the entire healthcare apparatus.) Dr. Cooke was calm, knowledgeable, and kind, and every staff interaction I had at the Toluca Lake clinic was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful staff.

The beginning of the visit was ok. But towards the end it felt rushed. And as I was taking my phone out to take notes on what the doctor was telling me, he made a snide remark about not having the time to talk to relatives. I was not requesting that. Even if I was, he could have been more polite. Being a woman of color there’s always a level of unease when it comes to medical care.

Dr. Cooke is excellent. Well informed. And I trust him. He also has a great bedside manner and makes me feel comfortable. The one thing I’d mention as far as constructive criticism is that he’s so used to routine physicals that he tends to go too fast and that can cause a bit of anxiety for someone like me. But that’s a minor quibble and patient-specific.

Today my doctor visit was very encouraging as this was a transfer of patient care establishing my new primary care physician. My healthcare treatment is rather extensive, but my doctor showed great patience and thoroughness to cover every area to make me feel cared for. I feel very confident with my doctor and staff. At UCLA, I feel welcome and treated with care bye a very professional organization.

The physician and staff are very professional and communicate extremely well. I feel very comfortable with my care providers and with the staff who have been very helpful to me. I am optimistic my physician will take great care of me. The doctor showed great interest towards my plan of care. And I am confident that I will succeed with my doctors health plan for me with UCLA assistance and treatment.

Came in for an assessment of my lower back/right hip pain. Dr Cook decided on physical therapy and muscle relaxant. Closest thing to a quick fix I suppose.

Dr. Cook is very kind and attentive to what you are talking about. He truly cares about your health. I’m just not Another patient to look at. I was stressful that I had to go someplace else for lab work today. And all of a sudden he came in and said we have someone that can do your labs. I know that he saw I was stressed because I did not have a car and I took an Uber there. Which would mean I’d have to take another Uber there and then home. He is the best. And I am so glad he’s willing to take my husband as his patient as well.
