It's a bird, it's a plane! It's a superhero descending from the hospital roof fighting window grime!

UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital pediatric patients watched in awe from their hospital beds as their favorite crusaders – including Batman, Captain America, the Hulk, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman – washed windows and waved hello from the outside.

In addition to the annual window-washing event, the heroines and heroes hosted a Zoom press conference to detail their morning, took questions from children and families and played games with participants. Kids were able to share their potential superhero names, including pediatric patient Henry, who received the "BAM" of approval from the noble defenders for his name, "The Illusion."

Since 2013, local company Sunland Window Cleaning has donated time to bringing superhero-sized excitement to pediatric patients. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Superhero Day was an even bigger sensation this year for children at the hospital, as many have been isolated or are coping with serious illnesses that keep them hospital-bound for months.

"These special, curated moments are even more important for our hospitalized children. Sunland Window Cleaning never ceases to thrill our patients and staff with their flexibility and eagerness to bring cheer and joy to our sick patients," said Kelli Carroll, director of the Chase Child Life Program.
