Why UCLA: Having been at UCLA for residency and cardiac fellowship, the decision to stay for pediatric fellowship was a really easy one! Everyone has been incredibly supportive of my career goals and taught me so much. I can't wait to see what this next year brings!

Dr. Liang enjoys lifting weights and going to the gym, playing piano, dabbling in pottery, and trying new foods around LA.

Why I Chose UCLA: UCLA has always held a special place in my heart. After 10 years away, I'm excited to be back! UCLA provides well-rounded training, small program size, and a good learning environment. It is an amazing academic institution for any stage of your medical journey. I'm looking forward to spending my seventh (and final) year of training here!

Dr. Sumida is a board certified pediatrician. When not in the OR, he likes to spend time as a hospitalist in the NICU or at Boy Scout summer camp as an infirmary physician. He is a member of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) conducting psychological evaluations for asylum seekers. He is passionate about increasing exposure to the field of anesthesia for K-12 students who are underrepresented minorities in medicine. He created the Milany Sumida Family Scholarship awarded annually to graduating seniors at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore, MD pursuing healthcare careers. His hobbies include tarot card reading, singing (Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Chicago Chorale, UCLA Chorale), and sci-fi/fantasy novels.
