About UCLA Anesthesiology
Having surgery or an invasive procedure that requires anesthesia is a significant event in anyone's life. Our primary concerns are your care, safety, and comfort before, during, and after your procedure.
With nearly 200 clinical and research faculty members, a diverse educational program that includes over 120 residents and fellows, and a remarkable team of nurse anesthetists, clinical support staff, and administrative staff, ours is a growing and vibrant department that is always looking for the best ways to help our patients, our community, and our world.
Our Expert Team
The UCLA Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine consists of a diverse team of accomplished, dedicated, and talented faculty and staff physicians who deliver exceptional patient care.
We Are Hiring!
We are actively seeking to expand and diversify our department with physicians committed to excellence in education, research, and patient care.
Your donation ensures that we can continue to conduct important research, provide innovative, compassionate patient care, and educate future generations of physician-scientist leaders.
Our faculty physicians evaluate, monitor, and supervise every patient;s anesthesia care throughout each procedure, tracking outcomes and continuously improving care for patients of every age and every clinical need.
Our teaching program complements the broad, intense clinical experience that residents and fellows gain at UCLA with weekly didactic sessions and world-class visiting professors at Grand Rounds.
Our department has been a consistent leader in basic science, clinical, and translational research, and now is breaking new ground in precision health research, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
Types of Anesthesia
There are four main categories of anesthesia used during surgery and other procedures: general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, sedation (sometimes call "monitored anesthesia care"), and local anesthesia. Sometimes patients may choose which type of anesthesia will be used.
