Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine Research
The UCLA Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is a consistent leader in research on all frontiers: basic science, clinical, and translational research. Our faculty members are top recipients of grant awards from the National Institutes of Health, and continuously strive to fulfill the clinical, educational, and research missions of the department.
Basic and Translational Research
In our world-class laboratories, researchers are studying molecular medicine and its relationship to clinical diseases, looking for insights into the causes, early diagnosis, and treatment of atrial fibrillation, pulmonary hypertension, postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and other critical health issues.
In every clinical division within our Department, physician anesthesiologists are involved in research to advance patient care, improve the delivery of cost-efficient yet personalized care, and optimize outcomes after every type of surgery for patients of every age.
News and Updates
A new engineering approach developed by a UCLA team led by Dr. Laleh Jalilian increases the accuracy of heart rate readings for people of color. By combining two technologies, camera and radar, this research boosted accuracy across a diverse range of skin tones. Congratulations, Dr. Jalilian!
