Congratulations! Gerardo Moreno MD, MS elected Chair of the American Board of Family Medicine 

The Department of Family Medicine congratulates Dr. Moreno! ABFM announced the election of four new officers and four new board members to the ABFM Board of Directors. New officers elected in April are: Gerardo Moreno, MD, MSHS, of Los Angeles, CA as Chair; Andrea Anderson, MD, of Washington, DC as Chair-Elect; Robert L. Wergin, MD, of Lincoln, NE as Treasurer; and Mott P. Blair, MD, of Wallace, NC as Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee.


Dr. Monica Plesa - Associate Program Director UCLA Family Medicine

Congratulations to our new Family Medicine Residency Associate Program Director!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Monica Plesa as Associate Program Director for the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Plesa currently serves as the co-chair of the Family Mecicine Core Clerkship for third-year medical students at DGSOM, and brings years of experience as a clinician educator and residency program core faculty to her new appointment.


Dr. Gerardo Moreno & Dr. Jennifer Lucero recieve grant

Congratulations to Drs Gerardo Moreno and Jennifer Lucero!

Dr. Moreno and Co-PI Dr. Jennifer Lucero of the Departments of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology have been awarded a $2.5M Center of Excellence grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration. The 5-year grant is designed to provide educational and training opportunities that focus on increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the health professions and addressing minority health issues.


UCLA Family Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks!

UCLA Health recently announced a new multi-year partnership with the LA Sparks to provide comprehensive physical and mental health care for the WNBA team. Our own Calvin Duffaut, MD and Sharon Hame, MD of UCLA Orthopaedic Surgery, will serve as team physicians. UCLA Health is also the official health care partner of the LA Lakers, the LA Dodgers, and UCLA Athletics.


MiVacuna LA

MiVacunaLA Intervention

The Department of Family Medicine's MiVacunaLA intervention has been selected as a winner of the VaxUp Innovation Challenge sponsored by Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. UCLA's effort is one of three teams that will receive a $75,000 grant to generate, test, and scale creative solutions to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates among children and teens in Los Angeles County.
