Internal Medicine Residency Program

Application Process

Applying to Multiple Programs

Applicants may apply to one or more of our categorical, STAR-PSTP, primary care, internal medicine-preventive medicine, or medicine-pediatrics programs. Your application will be reviewed by screeners in each program you have selected. You will be considered for each program independently, as each program has a separate match list. For applicants who apply to multiple programs, you may be considered more strongly for one over another based on fit.

The UCLA Primary Care Program is one program with two NRMP numbers corresponding to the two tracks:

  1. UCLA Olive View/Santa Monica
  2. UCLA West Los Angeles VA (HPACT)/Santa Monica.

Applicants should apply to the primary care program only if interested in pursuing a career in general internal medicine/primary care and may apply to both tracks if interested.

Program Signals

UCLA participates in program signaling through ERAS. We receive thousands of applications and wish we could invite all applicants to interview with us. Applicants who signal our program and meet our selection criteria will receive preferential consideration for interview invitations. We strongly recommend you signal our program if you are interested in training at UCLA. We review applications comprehensively, and signaling serves as one component of our comprehensive evaluation process. Please note that signaling our program does not guarantee you will receive an interview. The Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIMrecommends applicants signal their home institution and visiting rotations.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

For the current application cycle, we will not be using artificial intelligence (AI) in our recruitment screening process. If you apply to our program, please know that your application will be reviewed by us personally and that AI will not be used to make decisions about interviewing or ranking. In exchange, we ask for your commitment not to use AI during the interview process. We wish to get to know you and strongly believe that an authentic interview is the best way for applicants and residency programs to find the best fit.
