About the Consortium
History
The Southern California Addiction Medicine Consortium was founded in 2020 by the Health Resources and Services Administration, with a goal to reduce opioid misuse, use disorder, overdose, and related health consequences through the implementation of high quality, evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery support services.
What is the Consortium?
The consortium serves as a meeting point for medical professionals throughout Southern California to convene and share ideas for future research, methods of treatment, and innovation in the field of addiction medicine. It is composed of faculty who are energized and passionate about the field, serving as role models and training future leaders in improving the quality of care for historically underserved populations. The consortium also provides for an academic-community partnership with the Inland Empire, one of the most underserved areas in the state.
The consortium aims to:
- Serve the people of Southern California and extend the quality of care in the Inland Empire, one the most impoverished areas of the state.
- Implement telehealth technology, connecting patients in underserved areas with primary care residents and addiction medicine fellows across Southern California.
- Develop leadership skills and introduce the chronic care model along with the life course health development framework to addiction medicine fellowship curriculums.
- Improve the quality of materials and content, ensuring that our graduates provide the highest level of integrated, interprofessional, team-based care to individuals struggling with addiction issues.
