Stipends and Core Benefits

In addition to a competitive annual salary (currently $93,777 - $118,948 depending on PGY level): 

  • Employer-sponsored, $0 premium, Anthem PPO insurance with a low deductible, co-pays, and out-of-pocket maximum
  • Employer-sponsored, $0 premium, Delta Dental Insurance
  • Employer-sponsored, $0 premium, VSP vision insurance
  • Educational Stipend: $1200 year for all PGY levels (paid out as medical resident salary)
  • Housing stipend: $1000/month is included in the medical resident salary
  • Meals: $3,000 annual allocation for use in UCLA Hospital cafeterias (Westwood & Santa Monica)
  • Medical Residents and Fellows have access to an App-based meal delivery service available for use at select hospital rotation sites
  • Relocation Reimbursement: Newly appointed Medical Residents receive up to $2,750 in reimbursement for expenses incurred due to relocation. Subject to the University’s Travel and Relocation Policy.
  • License Reimbursement: Covers initial License and renewal fee, USMLE Step 3 fee
  • Additional access to Uber Eats and meal allowances while at off-site locations (VA, Olive View, CHLA, etc.)
  • Fatigue mitigation services – access to free Uber rides when post-call or too tired to drive
  • License Reimbursement – Medical license & renewals, Step 3, DEA
  • UCLA provided iPhones
  • Uniforms – Personalized white coats and UCLA logo jackets 

Moonlighting

Surgery Residents may work as per diem surgeons (“moonlighting”) within the Kaiser Health System or the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles during their research years, with approval from the program leadership. Through this opportunity, research residents can receive additional financial support and continue to practice clinical skills and decision-making during this time.
