POOF: Prostate Obliteration — Over and Finished
The Department of Urology invites applications for projects under the POOF initiative—an ambitious, multidisciplinary effort to eliminate the prostate as a source of disease. This program will support innovative, high-risk/high-reward studies aimed at generating preliminary data to enable future extramural funding.
Rationale
Following reproductive utility, the prostate contributes disproportionately to morbidity through benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, and prostatitis. An effective strategy to eliminate or permanently neutralize prostate tissue/function
could positively transform urologic health.
Program Goals
- Eliminate or make the prostate functionally inert
- Identify biological targets, mechanisms, or technologies
- Support multidisciplinary collaboration
- Generate data for competitive extramural grant submissions
Funding Details
- Maximum Award: $100,000
- Duration: 12–18 months
- Projects Awarded: Up to 2
Eligibility
Open to all UCLA-affiliated faculty and trainees (resident, fellow, PhD candidate, post-doc). Multidisciplinary teams are strongly encouraged. Trainees must include a faculty mentor.
