The UCLA Internal Medicine Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program and ERAS application system. Interview selection is based on academic performance, clinical skills, letters of recommendation, scholarship activity, and personal characteristics.

A completed application includes the ERAS common application form, personal statement, medical school transcript, a Dean's letter, and letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should include a letter from the Department of Medicine Chair (or designee) and at least two additional letters. All application materials must be submitted through ERAS. The application deadline is November 1.

Applicants may apply to one or both of our Categorical or Primary Care programs. The UCLA Primary Care Program is one program with two NRMP numbers corresponding to the two tracks: UCLA Santa Clarita/Olive View, and UCLA Santa Monica/West Los Angeles VA (HPACT). Applicants should apply to the Primary Care program only if interested in pursuing a career in general internal medicine/primary care, and may apply to both tracks if interested.

Graduates of International Medical Schools must possess valid ECFMG certificates, and be eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship. Effective 2019, the state of California no longer requires a Post Graduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) from international medical graduates.
