About UCLA Family Medicine
Consistent with the tripartite mission of the school of medicine, that is, patient care, medical education and research, we seek to improve the health and health care of families and communities in the Los Angeles metropolitan area through the provision of cost effective, accessible, high quality medical care for all. Further, we sponsor an extensive medical education program for medical students, family medicine residents, fellows and other trainees. Finally, our research division addresses the intercept between academia and community through a focus on vulnerable, elderly and underserved populations.

Our family physicians have expertise in areas that include sports medicine, addiction and behavioral medicine, palliative care, and healthcare for those unhoused.
Our Locations
The department runs two practices, one at the UCLA Health Family Health Center in Santa Monica and a second Mid Valley Family Medicine Clinic in partnership with Los Angeles County.

UCLA Family Medicine faculty have a long history of delivering compassionate, barrier-free, quality medical care to people living on the streets, encampments, homeless shelters and transitional housing. Students and residents are integral to our partnerships with community, academic, governmental and faith-based organizations, all dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness.

Dr. Gerardo Moreno, chair of the UCLA Department of Family Medicine and professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine. The distinction is among the highest honors in the fields of medicine and health.
