UCLA was among the first institutions to integrate simulation technology, which has now become a standard for medical education, surgical training, and health care team training. Such programs have resulted in improved performance, quicker response time, and less deviation from practice standards. Healthcare simulators increase trainee confidence and competence, improve patient safety, and can also yield cost and process efficiencies.
The UCLA Simulation Center was the first in Southern California to provide simulation-based training to medical students and residents. Established in 1996 by the Department of Anesthesiology, it subsequently evolved to a joint venture between the Department of Anesthesiology and the School of Medicine. Collaborations with the School of Nursing, the School of Dentistry and the UCLA Health System have made our facility an inter-professional training center.
International clinicians (including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals) can attend courses at one of our 3 simulation education centers. We provide tailored programming and advisory on medical scenarios, surgical techniques, simulation center operations management, and leadership development.

CASIT, The Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology is a UCLA-designated research facility whose mission is to define and advance the state of the art of surgical and interventional technology, to revolutionize surgical education and training, to enable the development of unprecedented accuracy and precision in the performance of minimally invasive procedures and to deliver novel, interventional therapies to patients. This will be accomplished through a greater interventional capacity through robotics, informatics, and simulation, and to develop, disseminate, and monitor interventional techniques employing a multidisciplinary research group with a strong foundation in biomedical engineering.
