Palliative Care

Specialized Tracks and Research Opportunities

Global Palliative Educational Collaborative (GPEC) for Hospice and Palliative

We are pleased to offer a specialized track in Global Palliative Care at UCLA as part of the Global Palliative Educational Collaborative (GPEC) for Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows at UCSF, Harvard, Tulane, and UCLA. GPEC offers a curriculum that enriches fellows' Hospice and Palliative Medicine training with many of the skills, perspective, and collaborative network needed to advance equitable palliative care globally. The track consists of a core curriculum including:

  • Monthly virtual didactics with lectures from both domestic and international faculty, collaborating across institutions
  • One-month immersive clinical elective with partner institutions in Uganda, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago, Navajo Nation, or Malaysia, with clinical oversight from palliative care faculty at host institution.
  • Longitudinal mentorship from experienced global health faculty
  • Scholarly project in conjunction with research priorities of partner institutions
  • Networking with a growing community of global palliative care practitioners

Selection to the track will be determined by each participating institution. Graduates of this track will have a broader understanding of differences in how palliative care is practiced in other parts of the world, delivering palliative care in settings with varying resources and policies, and incorporating a deeper sense of cultural humility into their practice of palliative care.
