Neurology Fellowship Programs

Former fellow and now faculty member, Dr. Andrew WilsonFormer fellow and now faculty member, Dr. Andrew Wilson, MD, MS, MBA.

Fellows in the Department of Neurology are trained and mentored by faculty who are recognized internationally as leaders in the field. We offer fellowship programs in 11 subspecialties and include research and clinical practice in eight practice locations, providing a rich, diverse experience.

UCLA Department of Neurology faculty have concurrent academic appointments in the Neuropsychiatric Institute and the Brain Research Institute, making Neuroscience the largest academic discipline at UCLA. The Department of Neurology is part of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA that is located in the Center for Health Sciences, adjacent to the UCLA campus in Westwood. Trainees at all levels in the School of Medicine also collaborate with multiple affiliated hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area including Cedars-Sinai, Olive View, Sepulveda VA, West Los Angeles VA, Harbor-UCLA, and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. Our neurology department and its faculty have adopted a programmatic approach to organization. This approach has enhanced our ability to provide focused patient care, clinical research, and basic science research in a disease specific manner.

Our medical students and neurology residents are exposed to all programs at all levels of training, however post-graduate fellows are able to choose their area of expertise or subspecialty. There is flexibility within each subspecialty allowing fellows and the sponsoring subspecialty program to design an individual experience and timeline that is primarily clinically focused or perhaps weighted toward clinical, basic, or translational research. The neuroscience community at UCLA strives to offer opportunities for its community, its patients, and its faculty and trainees through state-of-the-art clinical patient care, clinical research, technological advances in neuroimaging, and translational neuroscience research. This breadth of opportunity attracts patients from a national and international referral base. We strive to recruit and nurture faculty leaders and trainees at all levels who will enhance patient care, impact neuroscience discovery, and lead our discipline to exciting new treatments and prevention strategies for patients with neurological disease.
