I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism after getting a routine bone density scan that showed I was getting osteoporosis. After much research, I found two places where I could receive treatment for my parathyroidism - one in Florida and the UCLA endocrine center. Living in California, I decided it made much more sense to go to the one closer to me. I'm glad that I decided to visit Dr. Yeh. Meeting him for the first time for my pre-operation appointment made me immediately comfortable. Surgery is a scary thing to contemplate, but in hindsight, I feel like the anticipation of it was worse than the actual surgery. The surgery itself went smoothly. All of the instructions I received about what to expect were very accurate, and recovery was even better than I expected in terms of the amount of pain. The pain dissipated after 3 days, and I didn't feel the need to take narcotic medications that I was prescribed. My surgery was conducted at the ambulatory care setting - the pre-op, surgery, and post-op staff were very caring and nice people. Their warmth made the entire process much easier. I would encourage someone who needs surgery to go forward with it, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Yeh. It's not as bad as you anticipate.
