UCLA cancer researcher receives Professional of the Year honor

Dr. Robert H. Schiestl, distinguished UCLA professor of pathology, laboratory medicine and radiation oncology and environmental health sciences, has been selected the 2015 Professional of the Year by the American Registry for Outstanding Professionals, awarded in recognition of individuals who have reached the highest standards in their chosen field.

Schiestl, a member of UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, was chosen for his leading-edge work in cancer research, toxicology, genetic instability, DNA repair, inflammable bowel disease, bone marrow transplantation, and cancer prevention. Schiestl has appeared in nearly 200 publications and has had ten patents applied and/or approved during his tenure at UCLA, of which eight are licensed to businesses.

Schiestl was chosen out of a group of 1,200 highly accomplished candidates, all of whom were vying for the highly prestigious title. In addition, a photo of Schiestl with the UCLA logo is on display in New York’s Times Square.

The American Registry of Outstanding Professionals bestows the high honor on an individual based on their body of work and leadership achievements in their field of study.

Schiestl has been previously selected as the 2014 Professional of the Year in Strathmore’s Who’s Who in Higher Education, Pathology and Cancer Research.
