UCLA Health is a leader in providing equitable and inclusive health care to LGBTQ+ patients and families, according to an analysis from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

UCLA Health's designation as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader will be included in the foundation's annual Healthcare Equality Index, which is scheduled for a July release. Hospitals are recognized for policies and practices that reflect equal and inclusive treatment of LGBTQ+ patients, families and employees.

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, and UCLA Health - Santa Monica Medical Center, all received a score of 100 to earn the foundation's top designation.

Criteria included LGBTQ+ patient-centered care, patient services and support, community and patient engagement and employee benefits and policies. Other measures included non-discrimination policies for patients and employees, equal visitation policies for same-sex partners and staff training.

"At UCLA Health, we are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to all of our patients and their families," said Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health and CEO of the UCLA Hospital System. "We are proud to be recognized by the Healthcare Equality Index, which provides an excellent resource for patients deciding where to seek medical care and for hospitals evaluating services."

UCLA Health is launching the UCLA LGBTQ+ Fellowship on July 1. The year-long program will train a primary care physician to competently provide care specific to LGBTQ+ patients.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the education arm of the Human Rights Campaign and works to achieve equality for LGBTQ+ people.
