Dr. Robert Yamane is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician at UCLA Health. He previously saw patients at UCLA Health Calabasas and Motion Picture Television Fund, worked as a hospitalist in Ashland, OR, and was a physician in Conejo Valley/West Hills for over 20 years.
Dr. Yamane received his MD from UCLA, completed internship at UCLA/VA West LA, and residency at Cottage Hospital Santa Barbara. He also has two degrees in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science (MS Stanford, BS UC Berkeley)
Dr. Yamane enjoys spending his free time with family and friends at the beach, and mountain biking.

My experience with Dr. Yamane was subpar today. He was running behind schedule as most doctors. He was not sympathetic. Made no eye contact during the visit. Abruptly said he’d be right back and left the room. When he came back, he just started typing stuff on the computer. I had to ask what he was doing and what things meant. Apparently, we was referring me to an endocrinologist and said “it’s about 2-3 months to get an appointment, good luck.” There was very little dialogue and communication. He left the room again and then after a few minutes an office staff member came in to hand me a sheet of paper that the visit was over. Confused, I said he didn’t even review my blood work from a few weeks ago. She left and got another staff person to come in the room. Who came in and read what was I on my discharge report. Shocked, I also told her that Dr. Yamane did not review my blood work and asked why he just randomly left the room. Eventually, Dr. Yamane came back and ask what I needed. I told him he didn’t review my labs. Still feeling stunned by his poor bedside behavior, I told him that I thought it was odd that he just left without giving me any idea that my visit was over…. I told him it would be nice for a doctor to say “ do you have any more questions or thank you for coming in. We’ll see you next time”. He said nothing, just grunted. I’m looking for a doctor who will treat me as a human being not a chart number. I will not be wasting any more of my time with Dr. Yamane.

Dealing with this doctor has been been so stressful. The first time I went to the office and met with him, I left completely confused. He did not answer any of my questions or tell me what the next step would be. I visited UCLA on another visit and completed labs as he had requested. He only responded to one abnormal labs and posted the same message for all my tests that had nothing to do with anemia (other than one) I know that they are supposed to respond within three days and this was his shortcut to responding to all abnormal results. He just wanted to check the box off.. I’ve had amazing doctors with UCLA before, but this is been a complete disappointment. He doesn’t put the effort forth and cuts corners.

Dr Yamane is the most amazing doctor I have ever had in my 53 years of life. I am so glad he is back in the area. Believe how much time he takes to really listen to me and I feel he really cares about my health I was scheduled for an 8 AM appointment was taken immediately was graded by a very friendly nurse. Doctor was in right away to see me spent probably 20 minutes at least talking to me asking me questions. I’m listening and then I went right in for my lab work, which I waited for probably three minutes. The attendant was very helpful and all the best medical experience I’ve ever had.

The Dr listened to my concerns, examined me and ordered appropriate tests, which were performed at the facility. He was very easy to talk to, and explained my diagnosis and next steps clearly. He also thought ahead to send my prescription orders to a pharmacy that would be open at night (since my regular pharmacy wouldn’t be open till the next morning.). That way I could start my medication right away.
