Congratulations to the winners and all of our fellows and graduate students who took part in the 5th Annual Research Poster Day held on Thursday, May 16th, 2019.
Dr. Ali Khademhosseini has been nominated and elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE). This honor is in recognition of his distinguished contributions to and leadership in the field of medical and biological engineering at an international level.
Six UCLA Radiologists have been named to Los Angeles Magazine’s 2019 list of “Top Doctors” in Los Angeles. The results are based on a Los Angeles Magazine survey that asked physicians throughout Los Angeles County to identify doctors they considered to be at the top of their fields. UCLA Radiology researchers, led by Ruiming Cao, Kyung Sung, PhD and Steven Raman, MD, have developed a new artificial intelligence application — FocalNet — that detects prostate cancer lesions and predicts their aggressiveness on multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) scans. With comparisons to the prospective performance of radiologists using the current diagnostic guideline, FocalNet demonstrated nearly the same level of accuracy as radiologists with 10 years of clinical prostate MRI reading experience.
The paper “Prostate Cancer Detection and Segmentation in Multi-Parametric MRI Via CNN and Conditional Random Field” by Ruiming Cao, et al. was presented and selected as the runner-up for ISBI 2019 best paper award at the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging in April 2019.
