UCLA Urology supports the American Medical Association’s view that “FDA blood donor-eligibility requirements should be based on the latest scientific evidence and should evaluate all potential blood donors on an equal basis based on their individual risk factors.”

Blood Transfusion

If you will be having surgery, you may want to know your options for blood transfusions ahead of time. While many surgeries do not require blood transfusions, if they become necessary, the safest blood is always your own. However, if you need blood, you have several options. This information is designed to help you decide if, and what kind,of blood transfusion options are right for you.
