Norhan Ibrahim, BS, DO

Hometown: Queens, NY
Undergraduate: City College of New York
Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: There are multiple reasons why I chose UCLA. I deeply appreciated how much UCLA promoted and honored an incredibly kind and inviting culture in the ICU. UCLA demonstrated a well rounded curriculum that offered exposure to a variety of medically complex patients, while holding its value on patient care. I found it reaffirming that many UCLA faculty also completed their trained at UCLA for critical care fellowship.
I appreciated the opportunity to observe the exceptional product of the training program I am a part of. Lastly, i was drawn to LA because I haven't lived in a city that offers an abundance of outdoor activities as California. No better way to spend free time outside the ICU, than enjoying perfect weather and immersing in nature.

From Queens to Texas to sunny Los Angeles, I've embraced the adventure of planting roots in new cities. I'm the fun aunt to two young curly-haired nephews and the proud owner of two demanding cats. Mentorship has played a crucial role in my life, so I value the opportunity to give back. When I'm not unwinding after work with a true crime documentary, I'm out discovering, exploring, and inviting new experiences. I geek out on yoga and music. A few other things I enjoy are thrifting, rollerblading, and traveling to new cities with a flexible itinerary.

Louis Nguyen, MD, MS

Hometown: San Diego, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, San Diego
Graduate School: University of California, San Diego
Medical School: KeckISchool of Medicine of USC
Why I chose UCLA: " chose UCLA for critical care fellowship for multiple reasons. The opportunity to train across multiple high-acuity ICUs, work alongside leaders in critical care as a tight-knit team, and learning from a complex patient population were big factors. I am excited to learn a lot at UCLA and carry it forward into my future career.

Dr. Louis Nguyen is excited to be relocating all the way to the west side of LA from the east side of LA to pursue his two-year fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at UCLA after training in Emergency Medicine at Los Angeles General Medical Center. Outside of medicine, he has a diverse set of interests, including dabbling in tech, playing games, being outside backpacking, making a cup of coffee, or even learning a new hobby.

Ryan Price, MD

Hometown: Kinnelon, NJ
Undergraduate: University of Southern California
Medical School: Boston University School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA for multiple reasons, most notably the program being the perfect combination of clinical exposure, culture, and location. I desired a strong ICU training experience, with a robust CTICU experience in particular, and UCLA's excellent clinical training within the cardiac surgical and MCS space was readily apparent. The outstanding culture during the interview day with faculty and current fellows was palpable, and enthusiastically supported by those I spoke to outside of the interview day itself. Finally, as a USC undergraduate (sorry!), I always felt a connection and longing to return back to California at some point, and my fiancee and I could not have been happier for this to be the time.

I have been going back and forth between the coasts my entire life, growing up in New Jersey, attending undergraduate in LA, going to Boston for medical school, and finally training in NYC before heading back to LA for fellowship. Along every step of the way I have been a similar person- passionately embracing strong relationships and poignant experiences with colleagues, friends and family. My favorite times tend to involve as vibrant of travel and culinary experiences as possible, and hopefully the opportunity to ski. In my free time, I am an avid baseball fan (go Yankees) and love to engage in the cinema of television and film. To think of it, LA may truly be the perfect place for me!

Alexander Rodriguez, MD

Hometown: Milwaukee, WI
Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin - Madison
Medical School: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA for fellowship because it offered the ideal balance of advanced cardiac critical care, including mechanical circulatory support and broad, comprehensive ICU training. Coming from a high-volume transplant center, I wanted to continue managing complex patients in a setting that values both clinical excellence and collaborative, multidisciplinary care. UCLA's emphasis on procedural training, structured education, and opportunities for quality improvement aligned perfectly with my goals. Relocating to Southern California also brings us closer to family, making it the right choice both professionally and personally.

A Midwesterner at heart, Dr. Rodriguez is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but has come to love life in sunny Southern California. He enjoys being outdoors year-round golfing, surfing, or walking his dog along the coast. His path to UCLA included stops at UW-Madison for college, Northwestern for medical school, and Stanford for residency in the combined Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology program, where he also spent a year working as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is joining UCLA with his wife, a pediatric attending, and they're excited to call Los Angeles home. Following this year, he will be completing a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and ultimately hopes to build a career caring for patients in the CVICU. Outside of medicine, he enjoys trying new restaurants, catching a movie, or relaxing with a good book.

Benjamin Rosellini, MD

Hometown: Issaquah, WA
Undergraduate: Stanford
Medical School: University of California, San Diego
Why I chose UCLA: First off, I love LA and Southern California! I had to complete the SoCal Trifecta for my medical training: San Diego, then Orange County and finally Los Angeles. But jokes aside, UCLA offers a rich learning environment with an emphasis on CTICU which I am most interested in. There is also a strong transplant program which was not something I had exposure to during my residency in the OR or in the ICU. While applying for fellowship, I also met with a few anesthesiologists who completed their critical care training at UCLA and they loved their experience which was great to hear. I also felt like the UCLA program understands that with academic rigor and intense clinical training, fellows also need elective time to decompress from the ICU given how demanding the unit can be. I loved that fellows rotate to a different ICU weekly with elective weeks sprinkled in to offload some of the work burden. It seemed well balanced in that scheduling aspect. Finally, LA is just epic. I really believe it's the #1 city in the US in terms of food and it has a wonderful blend of cultures and entertainment options. I can't wait to explore!

Go Mariners. I'm a huge Seattle Mariners fan and I watch constantly whenever I can. I'm also a big Sci-Fi/Fantasy nerd alongside my wife, Mary. I'm currently listening to JRR Tolkien's Silmarillion on tape just to give you an idea. Mary and I met in med school at UCSD and then did distance for residency as she did her pediatric training in Seattle. We got married in September 2024 and we have a border collie mix named Artoo (for R2-D2 of course). I enjoy reading, exercising, trying new food, finding new breweries, golf and general tomfoolery. We love to travel and recently got scuba certified! Since January 2025 we've been to The Maldives, India, Singapore, Fiji and Oahu with another trip to Oahu planned for the fall. Luckily Mary is from SoCal and her folks love Artoo so they take care of him while we're away!
