The Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center at UCLA was opened in November 2004.

This is the first purpose-built Islet Research Center, made possible by a grant from the Larry Hillblom Foundation and by UCLA's substantial investment in six new faculty. Faculty have been recruited to bring together complementary expertise encompassing basic science and translational research, efforts to foster new islet formation, and protect existing islet cells from destruction.

Lipidomics Core

The UCLA Lipidomics Lab was founded in 2017.  The core has expanded over the last several years in operation, acquiring a second instrument, and is in the process of moving to a new dedicated lab space.  We analyze several thousand samples each year from UCLA, National, and International Clientele.  Our flagship lipidomics assay has expanded to become one of the most comprehensive targeted lipidomics assays in use today.  We’ve developed our own data analysis application (SLA) that lipidomics labs across North America and Europe use.  Cumulatively, the core staff have decades of experience in lipid biology.
