Deborah Oyeyemi-Walton, M.D.
Dr. Deborah Oyeyemi Walton grew up in Sacramento, California. She graduated with distinction in Psychology-Neuroscience from Yale University, received her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, and completed her Primary Care Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Prior to joining the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Oyeyemi Walton was a postdoctoral fellow in the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCLA. Her research focuses on dementia caregiving, and she plans to pursue a career in academic medicine as a clinician-scientist.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Oyeyemi Walton will join the Division of Geriatrics at the Duke University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Research Faculty member in Durham, North Carolina, where she will continue her work in aging research, dementia caregiving, and academic geriatrics.
Elisabeth Parra, M.D.
Dr. Sasha Parra was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her B.S. and B.A. in Human Biology and Community Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, before completing the UC Davis Postbaccalaureate Program. She attended medical school through the Charles R. Drew University/UCLA Medical Education Program and went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency in the Primary Care Track at UC Davis.
Dr. Parra is a certified Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and has worked in various nursing homes, experiences that helped shape her commitment to caring for older adults. Her professional interests include medical education and improving care for low-income geriatric communities. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and chasing after her energetic three-year-old child.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Parra plans to remain in Los Angeles and is currently exploring opportunities with Venice Family Clinic and Martin Luther King, Jr. Outpatient Center, including a potential joint position with UCLA that would allow her to participate in the Bruin Scholars Program while continuing her commitment to caring for underserved older adults.
Matthew Quan, M.D.
Dr. Matthew Quan was raised in Southern California. He received his B.A. in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley, before pursuing a medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. He returned to Los Angeles to complete his residency in Family Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
His professional interests include dementia, falls, medical education, and caring for underserved populations. Throughout his training, Dr. Quan has been dedicated to improving the care of older adults through evidence-based medicine, teaching, and community engagement. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, visiting art galleries, and skateboarding with friends.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Quan will remain at UCLA as a Clinician-Educator in the Division of Geriatrics, where he will continue providing high-quality care to older adults while contributing to the education and mentorship of future healthcare professionals.
Suyee Win, M.D.
Dr. Suyee Win grew up in the San Gabriel Valley in California. She received her bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Williams College in Massachusetts and earned her medical degree from the California University of Science and Medicine in San Bernardino, California. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2025.
Dr. Win was inspired to pursue geriatric medicine through her experience caring for her grandfather as his dementia progressed. This personal experience fostered her passion for caring for older adults and supporting patients and families navigating complex medical and cognitive conditions. Her professional interests include outpatient medicine and providing comprehensive primary care to the geriatric population.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Win will join Austin Regional Clinic Senior Care Center in Austin, Texas, as a Primary Care Physician. She looks forward to building lasting relationships with older adults and helping them maintain their health, independence, and quality of life through patient-centered geriatric care.
Olivia Yang, M.D.
Dr. Olivia Yang was born in Torrance, California. She attended UCLA, where she earned her degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG), before going on to receive her medical degree from the California University of Science and Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside County.
Dr. Yang is excited to return to UCLA and Los Angeles to complete her geriatric medicine fellowship. Her interest in geriatrics began during an aging course at UCLA, where she developed an appreciation for the unique needs of older adults and was able to apply what she learned to the care of family members and patients. Her professional interests include quality improvement initiatives that enhance care for older adults, and she plans to pursue a fellowship in Rheumatology in the future.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Yang plans to take several months off to spend time with family and travel, including visits to Columbus, Ohio, and Hawaii. She is currently in the process of negotiating a position with AltaMed PACE in Norwalk, California, where she hopes to serve as a Staff Physician providing comprehensive care to older adults while continuing her commitment to improving healthcare quality and outcomes for aging populations.
Hyun, Yim, M.D.
Dr. Jen Yim was born in South Korea and grew up in Simi Valley, California. She earned her bachelor's degrees in Music and Biology from Northwestern University before obtaining her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.
Throughout her medical training, Dr. Yim developed a passion for caring for vulnerable populations and is particularly interested in improving the health and quality of life of older adults. She plans to focus her career on nursing home and long-term care medicine, where she can build meaningful relationships with patients and families while providing comprehensive geriatric care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Yim enjoys hiking with her dog, exploring new restaurants, and playing the violin.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Yim will join Kaiser Permanente in West Los Angeles, California, as a Geriatrician. She looks forward to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to older adults and contributing to the health and well-being of the community she serves.
Zakir Ali, D.O.
Zakir Ali, a Houston native, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from UCLA before attending medical school at Des Moines University. He returned to Houston to complete his Family Medicine residency at Houston Methodist. His passion for geriatrics was sparked early in life through accompanying his grandfather to medical visits, shaping his commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. This early experience continues to guide his approach to caring for older adults across diverse settings.
He is particularly interested in advancing culturally responsive geriatric care within nursing homes and post-acute environments by incorporating individualized food options, activities, and traditions that reflect patients’ cultural identities—promoting dignity, familiarity, and respect. Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking, exploring new cuisines, spending time with his cats, and collecting sneakers.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Zakir Ali will join AltaMed PACE in Huntington Park, CA as a Primary Care Physician, where he will provide comprehensive, longitudinal primary care to older adults enrolled in the PACE program. In this role, he will support medically complex, frail older adults through an interdisciplinary care model focused on preventive care, chronic disease management, care coordination, and maintaining independence within the community.
Lauren Matsuno, M.D.
Dr. Lauren Matsuno was born in Torrance and grew up in San Jose, California. She earned her B.S. in Molecular Toxicology from UC Berkeley and her M.D. from UCLA. She also completed her Internal Medicine residency in the Primary Care Program at UCLA. Her passion for geriatrics began with the MSTAR program, which inspired her interest in interdisciplinary, holistic care. She has conducted research in social isolation, advance care planning, dementia, and elder abuse. Other interests include Asian American health and health disparities. She hopes to pursue a career in primary care, community work, and advocacy. Outside of medicine, she enjoys Nihon Buyo (traditional Japanese dance), puzzles, and exploring national parks.
Following graduation from the UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Matsuno will join PACE at LA Jewish Home as a Staff Physician, providing care at the Reseda and West Los Angeles, California locations.
Kelly Cheung-Warren, M.D.
Dr. Kelly Cheung-Warren was born and raised in Anaheim, California. She majored in Biology at UC Irvine, where she became the first in her family to graduate from college. She attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she participated in the Primary Care Underserved Track. She then completed her Internal Medicine residency at UCLA’s Primary Care Program, along with the Medical Education pathway.
Dr. Cheung-Warren is currently pursuing an integrated two-year fellowship in Geriatrics and Palliative Care to further complement her practice in primary care and inpatient medicine. She is committed to serving underserved communities in Los Angeles County and advancing health equity and social justice in her clinical work. She is also a strong advocate for age-friendly care and uses social media as a platform for mentorship and medical education.
Upon completion of her training, Dr. Cheung-Warren will remain within the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Fellowship Program as a fellow, where she will continue to receive advanced clinical training in serious illness care, symptom management, and comprehensive care of older adults, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, patient-centered practice across outpatient and inpatient settings.
