Three Modes of Curriculum

We deliver three modes of curriculum to children and teens who attend LA County's Dept. of Parks and Recreation's Our SPOT Program, combining hands-on experiences and collaborative group activities with a focused didactic component.

Learn more about these below!

Mindfulness

Mindfulness curriculum aims to provide "tools," such as stress-reduction strategies and SMART goal setting as a means to augment the preparedness of the youth to be more intentional about happiness and productivity in their day to day lives.  The content is delivered by FitNut, an undergraduate volunteer program at UCLA.

Environmental Health

Environmental Health curriculum is geared towards educating the Our Spot-goers about how the environment affects their health and what they can do to care for it. Environmental stewardship and activism through action are a couple of key themes that describe our environmental health curriculum.  The content is delivered by TreePeople, a volunteer organization for sustainable ecosystems.

Fitness and Nutrition

Fitness and Nutrition curriculum takes a more holistic view of what it means to be physically healthy, and how even the smallest choices we make (i.e. taking the stairs instead of an escalator) can be beneficial for our health. Culturally-relevant recipes and research-backed snacks decorate the Our SPOT youth's plates. The content is delivered by FitNut, an undergraduate volunteer program at UCLA.
