Course Description: 
This interdisciplinary continuing education symposium explores evidence-based, whole-person approaches to chronic pain management. Expert presenters will examine the role of integrative medicine and acupuncture, mindfulness-based interventions, restorative sleep strategies, psychosocial assessment, and anti-inflammatory nutrition in chronic pain care. Participants will gain practical tools to address the biological, psychological, behavioral, and lifestyle factors that influence pain, improve patient engagement and self-management, and support long-term functional outcomes through comprehensive, patient-centered rehabilitation.

Completion Requirements: To earn a certificate of completion, participants must:

  • Attend the entire duration of the professional development activity.
  • Actively participate in the Q&A session.
  • Complete the post-course evaluation no later than 48 hours after the class. A link to the evaluation will be emailed to you following the class. 
  • No partial credit will be awarded.

Instructor Bios

Helen

Helen Setyan, PT, DPT, OCS

Helen Setyan, PT, DPT, OCS is a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist, educator, and wellness professional. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Journalism from the University of Southern California and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Mount St. Mary’s University. She also completed yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, mindfulness training through UCLA’s Mindfulness Awareness Research Center (MARC) and is currently pursuing certification in health and wellness coaching from UC Irvine.

Dr. Setyan practices across outpatient and workplace wellness settings, integrating physical therapy, mindfulness, and movement-based approaches. She is actively involved in clinician education and program development and serves as an Associate Professor in West Coast University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. 

She is a frequent speaker on topics including pain science, mindfulness, and psychologically-informed care, and is passionate about empowering individuals to better understand their bodies, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys travel, the arts, and time with nature.

Matthew Konersman, PT, DPT

Matthew Konersman, PT, DPT is a physical therapist at UCLA Health with clinical interests in health behavior change, lifestyle medicine, chronic disease management, and sleep health. He was a collaborator in the launching of the UCLA Restorative Sleep Therapy (ReST) program, which integrates evidence-based behavioral sleep interventions, mindfulness practices, and rehabilitation principles to support restorative sleep and improved daily functioning for patients with insomnia. His professional interests include preventive rehabilitation, lifestyle optimization, health coaching, and empowering individuals to develop sustainable habits that improve long-term quality of life.

Katie Hu, MD

Katie Hu, MD is a physician leader, educator, and researcher dedicated to advancing integrative medicine through clinical care, academic training, and community engagement. She completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at the UCLA Department of Family Medicine in Santa Monica, California, followed by a fellowship in East–West Integrative Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Hu is licensed and board-certified in both Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Hu currently serves as Associate Director of the UCLA Center for East–West Medicine and Program Director of the UCLA East–West Integrative Medicine Fellowship, where she oversees one of the nation’s leading fellowship programs in integrative medicine. She is also Co-Director of the UCLA East–West Pediatrics Program, expanding integrative approaches to child and adolescent health with an emphasis on mental health, resilience, and creative healing modalities.

As an Associate Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Dr. Hu is deeply committed to medical education. She is part of the UCLA Family Medicine Clerkship Intersession faculty and has previously served as course chair for medical student selectives and undergraduate summer courses in integrative health. Through these roles, she has contributed to training the next generation of physicians in whole-person, integrative approaches to care.

Dr. Hu’s clinical and research interests include preventive medicine, women’s health and prenatal care, adolescent medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicine and dietary supplements, and integrative procedures. Her consultative and primary care practice in Santa Monica, California integrates conventional biomedicine with traditional Chinese medicine and evidence-based integrative therapies. She emphasizes a whole-person approach to health and healing, addressing physical, emotional, and lifestyle factors in patient care.

Through her leadership, scholarship, and clinical practice, Dr. Hu is advancing the field of integrative medicine by bridging traditional healing practices with modern evidence-based care. Her work continues to shape innovative models for patient care, physician training, and community-based health promotion.

Nicole DiBona, MS, RDN

Nicole DiBona, MS, RDN is a registered dietitian nutritionist currently serving patients undergoing Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Women’s Cardiovascular Center. She previously worked at UCLA Santa Monica as a coverage in-patient dietitian. Nicole has a masters degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler. She completed her clinical dietetics training at UCLA Ronald Regan Medical Center. Nicole provides compassionate individualized care with the intention of helping others live healthier lives. She has worked with many patient populations and is experienced in helping individuals manage blood sugar, cholesterol, and weight. Nicole believes nutrition plays a large role in our health and longevity and is dedicated to sharing her knowledge.

Anne Saltzman, PsyD

Anne Saltzman, PsyD is a certified Psychologist at the UCLA Health Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department. She specializes in Cardiology and offers individual interventions and assessments in mood, quality of sleep and stress. Dr. Saltzman is the first specialist to provide Psychological services to Cardiac patients within the UCLA Health system. She is a member of the UCLA Women Cardiovascular Center where she provides interventions to help women prevent and manage heart disease.  She has developed the first Practicum in Cardiac Psychology in collaboration with the UCLA Department of Psychology. She has made quality of sleep a focus of her approach in Cardiac Care and is collaborating with the UCLA Santa Monica Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Clinic. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology.
