At La Gran Fiesta on Saturday, Oct. 1, UCLA Health hosted a Family Care Village to provide Dodgers fans with clinical services such as eye exams, dental screenings, blood pressure checks, blood glucose readings, information on screenings for colon cancer and more.
Sponsored by Coca-Cola, Spectrum and Budweiser, La Gran Fiesta concludes the season-long Viva Los Dodgers series, which recognizes the contribution of Latinos in baseball. This year’s event was held in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium prior to the game against the Colorado Rockies.
The Family Care Village had more than 5,000 attendees participate in health screenings and giveaways. Around 70 bilingual volunteers, staff and students represented several UCLA Health divisions and departments, including:
- UCLA Division of Dermatology
- UCLA School of Dentistry
- UCLA Division of Digestive Diseases
- UCLA Department of Family Medicine
- UCLA School of Nursing
- UCLA Stein Eye Institute
- Orthopaedic Institute for Children
- La Comunidad, an affinity group at UCLA Health
In addition to clinical services and screenings, volunteers provided guests with health information on nutrition and sun safety, referrals for care and more.
