Dr. Christopher Tarnay and Dr. Aparna Sridhar have been recognized by ACOG for their outstanding contributions to women’s health care. Both are Fellows of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and members of District IX, which represents California and Ecuador.
Dr. Tarnay received the International Service Award, which honors an ACOG Fellow whose work has advanced women’s health in global settings. His recognition reflects nearly two decades of partnership and clinical work in Uganda. In collaboration with Medicine for Humanity and colleagues in Uganda, Dr. Tarnay has provided surgical training and education to strengthen care for women experiencing childbirth-related injuries.
An expert in robotic and minimally invasive surgery for prolapse and incontinence, he started the Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Tarnay serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Women’s Pelvic Health at UCLA, which offers comprehensive urogynecologic services along with advanced care for pelvic health conditions.
“Through service and education, we can empower the next generation of women’s health providers,” said Dr. Tarnay.
A global health leader, Dr. Sridhar is advancing equitable reproductive care through innovative education and international collaboration. She builds technology-enabled, cross-border learning networks—leveraging virtual exchange and simulation—to connect clinicians across diverse settings, foster shared problem-solving, and disseminate best practices to improve maternal health outcomes worldwide.
She received the Outstanding Distinguished Service Award, which celebrates a Fellow’s service at the District level. Dr. Sridhar helped the District IX Communications Team strategically expand its social media presence and elevate key messages, advocacy efforts and initiatives. As a result, District IX’s visibility and communications was strengthened amongst its members and the public.
“It is important to build a connected and informed community of clinicians and advocates across the globe,” said Dr. Sridhar.
Dr. Tarnay and Dr. Sridhar were recognized at ACOG’s Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting earlier this month in Washington, D.C.
“We’re honored and humbled to receive this recognition from ACOG,” added Dr. Tarnay and Dr. Sridhar.
