“I’m really proud of my mom,” says 13-year-old Alina Newman, enjoying being part of the Pride parade. Alina’s mother, Dr. Amy Weimer explains, “I direct the UCLA Gender Health Program. I think UCLA has done a tremendous amount this year to improve services for the LGBTQ+ community and its visibility, and I want the community to know that we’re here to support them. We’re here to celebrate a community that sometimes doesn’t get celebrated and sometimes faces discrimination. It’s really nice to be in a place where everyone can be who they are.”
