UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital placed in California’s top five and nine subspecialty areas earned national recognition in a comprehensive national evaluation of pediatric care.
This is the 20th consecutive year UCLA Health has demonstrated broad excellence in the annual Best Children’s Hospitals assessment by U.S. News & World Report, published September 14.
The nationally ranked subspecialties are: behavioral health; cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and urology.

The Best Children’s Hospitals methodology includes, among other factors, clinical outcomes, compliance with established best practices and the level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care.
“From the most complex medical and surgical needs to prevention and advocacy, our team is dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art care grounded in clinical and scientific excellence, while putting every child and family at the center of our efforts,” said Shafali Jeste, MD, executive medical director and UCLA Mattel Executive Endowed Chair of pediatrics, and executive director of the Children’s Discovery & Innovation Institute.
The hospital is located within Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on the university’s main campus in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Pediatric care is also provided at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, along with a network of general and subspecialty pediatric services at multiple locations across Southern California.
UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital pediatric subspecialty areas have consistently earned national recognition since U.S. News launched the assessment in 2007.
