An emergency appendectomy was performed on me on Saturday, 7/9/16 at your Santa Monica hospital location. I have to say, from check-in to check-out, my entire experience was extraordinary. I wish I could remember the names of all the outstanding men and women who helped me, but everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, was fantastic. Particularly notable: The middle-aged Caucasian ER physician treated me like I was his regular patient of many years. The young female surgeon who was the person who explained that I needed surgery and was patient, informed and an incredibly calming influence. The African-American surgeon who followed up with me and did the same. (I’ve identified age, gender and race only so you will hopefully know to whom I am referring.) Dr. Michael Yeh who presided over the team that performed the surgery and the anesthesiologist – both were fantastic. All the nurses and hospital staff who took care of me post-op. And an extraordinary nurse named Margaret Cabreros. She went above and beyond the call of duty in her patience with me and her general care. You could see she truly cares about her job and I hope she receives proper recognition for it. Nobody wants to have emergency surgery, but UCLA Santa Monica nearly made it a pleasure.
